The core products of Agrol's bio-refineries are ethanol and electricity. Ethanol is already the world's biggest commodity produced by fermentation, both in volume and value. Total production of ethanol is above 25 million tonnes annually and is worth an estimated $10 million. 75% of world production of ethanol is used as motor fuel either in its pure form or as a blend with gasoline.

Present production is based on edible raw materials and therefore has to be heavily subsidised. With a growing world population it is only a matter of time before conventional bio-ethanol producers see their feedstock costs increase. The residual biomass from ethanol production is used to produce electricity which is fed into grid. Alternatively the residual biomass can be sold as feedstock for the production of pulp or MDF board.

The company also develops fermentation processes for other products based on biomass raw material.
